History and mission

Clos Haga vineyard in Karjaa Finland is open field without winter coverage such as greenhouse or growth tunnel. Vineyard was established in 2021.

Our mission is to find a vitis hybrids  that can thrive in this location. The site is Southwest facing, sloping with favorable micro climate. The challenges are the exposure to strong winds and the Finnish climate in general. Site is at Finnish growth region 1b, USDA growth region 6a.

Due to the challenges  of cool spring in general and cool soil specifically, any new planting of open root seedling requires special care. The new seedlings are first planted in grow bags. Typicly from early May to end of June. Grow bags can be protected from elements if needed and the soil in bags is warm promoting the root growth.
